What’s more, it’s an incredibly diverse activity. There are several different styles, each of which incorporates a number of different poses and stretches. The main focus is on how you breathe –– something we can so often forget to do. We’re certain that no matter what style of yoga you choose, you’ll leave every session feeling stronger and clear headed.

The benefits of Yoga are endless: flexibility, happiness, and relaxation are a few immediate effects. Like all healthy habits, the more you incorporate Yoga into your lifestyle, the better you’ll feel.

Yoga is continually evolving and there is a style for everyone. We’ve selected a few popular styles to give you a taste of what to expect. For example, if you prefer intense exercise, such as cross-fit or running, yoga is important to help your muscles recover, stretch and grow. You’d love the Ashtanga style.

Ashtanga Power Yoga

Ashtanga is intense ‘Power Yoga’ –– and, boy, is it fast-paced! Everyone does the 26 different poses together, allowing the teacher to observe your body and it’s reactions. Are you holding onto anything that you need to let go of? Your yoga teacher will be able to lead you through this discovery.

Although this style of yoga is hard at first, practice will make you perfect. If you’re an athlete, you’ll love the challenge,  both physically and emotionally.

Bikram Hot Yoga

Bikram Yoga is very standard: 26 poses, 90 minutes long, in 40 degrees heat. But, has anyone told you how addictive it is? It is the ultimate detox –– the purpose of Bikram is to literally wring your body out like a sponge. It’s physically demanding in a unique way, circulation will improve and excess weight will drop.

If you haven’t done Bikram, you need to! It’s not for everyone, but it’s something to tick off the bucket list. In many classes you can go at your own pace if it is too intense. Be sure to follow instructions before class. i.e 3L of water before class, and no eating for at least three hours.

What should you wear?

Hatha Yoga

This is the fun and lighthearted yoga, where you’ll spend most of the time laughing and listening to unique music. Each month has a universal theme, which constantly changes.  

Great for beginners, Hatha Yoga allows you to under the spirituality of the yoga, while also understanding the poses, balance and coordination. Be warned, you’ll need to quickly crawl out of your shell!

Vinyasa Yoga
